The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has announced that the Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing Hub (iFAB) is a Tech Hub Designee. The Tech Hubs Program, created as part of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, invests directly in high-potential U.S. regions and aims to transform them into globally competitive innovation centers. The Tech Hubs Program is designed to drive regional technology- and innovation-centric growth by strengthening a region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialize, and deploy critical technologies while also catalyzing the creation of good jobs for American workers at all skill levels, both equitably and inclusively. Champaign-Urbana and Decatur MSAs (Champaign, Piatt, and Macon counties) are included as part of the Tech Hub Designation.
